Gel that avoids making hair curly?

Hi I am caucassian curly guy. I've been told that using hair gel makes hair curly, or at least defines curls, and this has proven to be right.

I use herbal escences hair gel.

Is there any kind of hair gel design to avoid this curly effect?

I dont know, but styling wax will straighten it right out, keep it there, and its not that greasy or "waxy" at all.
