Hair gel/pomade to use before ironing hair with flat iron?

I'm looking for a good hair product applied to the hair before using the straightening iron on it to make it shiny and straight.Something like a gel or a pomade? my hair are curly/wavy and thick and somewhat frizzy on top. something that's available easily in like walmart or target, etc. We dont have Macy's where we live.

PS:I heard that gels make the hair dry and pomades end up as gummy residue or oily....

The best thing to use is a hair serum. One that protects your hair from heat and helps frizz. Redkin has a good line of products that can help, also Biosilk hair serum is great! It smells really good and it makes your hair so soft and shiny. And controls frizz. I too have curly hair that's thick. If you don't want to spend too much money the best brand at the store is Garnier Fructis and John Frida (sp?). They also have flat ironing spray that's good too.

I wouldn't suggest gel if you're going to then straighten it... maybe a straightening cream/hair prtoectant. use gel if you want your hair curly.... or after you straighten it a little gel or pomade to keep it straight.

uh uh! never use sticky products before heat! this will FRY your hair. what you want is a serum, Biosilk is a good one, it leaves your hair silky and shiny. Apply it when hair is wet. Blow dry hair and then perfect it with your flat iron

You need to use a pressing cream. If you use gel or pomade before hand, you will seriously damage your hair, it will burn! You should be able to find pressing cream at any supermarket in the health%26amp;beauty aisle. If not there, see if there is a Sally's Beauty Supplie in your area; CVS and Target might carry it as well.

I blowdry my hair first, then section it off and iron it...THEN I put a product called "Biosilk" on it...cant buy it in Walmart or Target just Sally Beauty supply...ask for a few samples and try it out...they should be able to give you some and it will last a while...It is a little expensive but smells SO GOOD and works really well...make sure your iron is on as hot as it can go...and dont iron more then 3 times a week because it can EXTREMELY damage the hair....

Use Matrix sleek flat iron spray. Spray each section before you iron it. Try to let it air dry then iron it so its less damage. Then you can use Biosilk if you want too, but ALWAYS use something before you iron it cause it will ruin your hair if you dont. I see too many girls frying their hair from doing this without good product

it isnt good to put product (like gels and pomade and mousse) in your hair before you straighten it. it can damag your hair, make it so hard to brush and it will seriously gunk up your flat iron- so much where it starts smoking.... first of all you need a good flat iron ( GO TO SALLY BEAUTY SUPPLIES, OR SHOP IN THERE ONLINE STORE) all their products you can try out, and exchange it if it doesnt work.... even flat irons.... now the product that you can use before you iron your head is called flat iron spray get the (ION brand. it is in a spray bottle.... there are several products like this.... this spray puts shine in your head. it keeps the frizz out, and it is like a leave in conditioner so to speak.... be careful with the product. if use toooo much at a time, it will make your hair greasy... a couple of sprays will do it, just dont saturate the hair in it... after the couple of sprays, take sections of your hair between your hands and rub them down, to make sure it is thouroughly spread out... then flat iron your hair....

oh i heard someone mention BIOSILK SILK DROPS, you CAN use this before flat irons... it is very similar to the product i mentioned.... at sallys they have off brands (ion) of silk drops that are less expensive and works just as good ( iknow bc i have used them all) sallys is a wonderful site and store... oh and if you want to get a new iron, i would go with a tourmaline straight iron. it has nagitive ions that straighten the hair from the inside out (not just the outside of your hair shaft) and also, it is infused in ceramic. (ceramic, when heat is applied to it, kills the bacteria in your hair) also available at sallys.... dont believe me? check it out at sally beauty supplies.

BIOSILK is great. It took me a while to figure out how to get it right, though.

Don't put it all the way through your hair, just small sections at a time. Blow dry. Then, flat iron. If your hair starts to dry, spritz with water. Your hair has to be WET, not damp.

When I finish, I use some kind of liquid gloss. I prefer PURE GLYCERIN. It makes my hair shiny but doesn't affect the straightening.

well i use the herbal essences dangerously straight you can get it at like walmart and kmart and places like that just spritz it over the hair even the underside and straighten then when you get finished spritz it over again and it will keep it straight all day and the redken is a really good product
