Headaches from hair gel / hairspray?

Everytime I use gel or hairspray, I get a headache after about 6 hours unless I wash it out before then. I have fairly short hair and do the little flip thing in the front like a lot of guys. I like my hair with gel better than having them be soo short that there's really no need to do anything to the hair. Has anyone experienced this? The headaches can get very bad if I don't take advil. However, I know that advil can do serious damage over a long period of time. I have tried at least 10 different brands of gel and hairspray and they all cause the headaches. Is there a solution besides keeping my hair really short or not styling it at all?
