Hi there,

To answer your first question, hair gel is pretty much a "gel" while hair wax is more of a paste and much thicker and will give you a stronger hold. Gel is typically used to get the basic shape of the look your going for, (maybe brushed back, or to get that damp appearance) while wax is used usually for the fine tuning (like spiking the front of your hair, or getting sharp tips) If you're going to use gel, make sure your hair is dry, as wet hair is weaker and can break more easily. Apply the gel and shape your hair to the look you want and then AIR dry. Many of my friends use hair wax after they use gel, so you can always apply the wax to get a stronger hold. (but gel is probably the best and only thing you'll need)

But lemme give you some advice. Try to avoid using gel and these products in your hair. I use to apply gel to my hair everyday for school for a few years, but then found out that gel can actually ruin your hair and damage the follicles, and eventually make you bald sooner, and that would realllly suck! Love your hair the way it is, im sure it looks great anyway. But if you must use gel, NEVER use a gel with Alcohol in it. It will dry your hair out and will promote that balding effect. Try using a water based gel, (if you read the back of the bottle, the primary ingrediant will be called "aqua")

A nice look is to just dry your hair, apply gel to the front of your hair, comb it up, and then air dry while holding it up with the comb.

Hey how old are you? If you want to look descent like corporate look, use gel. But if you are teenager and needs put or try some style on your hair, I recommend hair wax, the strong one (you can also choose matte finish or shiny). Anyways, using wax, put an amount of wax on your fingertips and start rubbing against your tips until you feel that the wax is already melted then start putting it with rubbing motion on every strand(most likely) of your hair, then start styling.
