Please recommend a hair gel! (for my specific situation)?

I have shortish very fine wavy hair. I wash and wear my hair back off my forehead but the gels and mousses so far leave it REALLY DULL. I mean it goes from blond/ash/blond to really really dull dark!! YUCK. I tried a bit of hairspray and that was okay but it is so sticky. My hair basically is cut in a simple wash-n-wear, unstructured wavy bob. What can I use? A little dab after shampooing, push back and go? Please tell me of a product YOU USE that is not dulling and not super sticky! HELP!!! When I use nothing my hair is shiny and pretty but gets in my face and does a bit of fly away too. I NEED THIS FOR WORK PLEASE to get the hair out of my face but not looking like crap. Please name product specifically so I can go buy it. :-)

Don't know about hair jel creating an acne problem. I have oily skin. I have a habbit of rubbing my forhead with my had and the dirty and oil causes problems. For your hair, start using moose. It'll work just as good I'm sure.

Try spraying your hair with some max hold hairspray after you put gel on it and spike it. Then use your hairdryer on low for a few secs and see if that works. The heat will help set it.

I know exactly what that is, I use the brown protein stuff and they are usually right next to each other because they are the same thing except for the fact that one is clear for light colored hair...you should be able to get it where ever ethnic hair care products are sold.

I wouldn't suggest that hard brown gel because it can dry the hair out. The gel that I would suggest is aloe vera gel the kind in the plastic bottle. Most people use it for sun burned skin but it is also great for the hair. As for the twisting I suggest go to youtube.com and look around in there. This site has so many people on there that has had natural hair for years and there are so many instructional videos on there to tell you how to create natural hair styles. Hopes this helps. Peace.

Try Garnier Fructis. They have several types of hair gel, spray, and mousse. I have them all and absolutely LOVE them. Give them a try because they aren't expensive and they sell them everywhere!

I used to use Let's Jam gel. It's soft, non-flaky, and holds the hair when doing a ponytail or up-do. You don't have that hard feeling as opposed to the other styling gels. Plus they have different varieties to choose from: regular, super, gels for fine to normal hair, course hair....etc. I used it alot when I had long hair to put my hair in a ponytail and when I did pontail extensions for my family and friends.

Just because your hair is damaged dosen't mean you can't wash it. If a professional told you not to, than don't. But I suggest that you wash it at least every other day. If you are worried about it getting even more damaged use a good moisturzing/repairing shampoo and conditioner like Dove Advanced Care Therapy. Together (shampoo and conditioner) there is only one alcohol in it.

It is ok to keep gel or mousse in your hair for 3-4 days, but you should probably but a little bit in between, like the second or third day. You should probably also use a good clarifying shampoo once every 10 days to remove build up.

If u use a lot of gel, and don't wash it out, YES IT CAN CAUSE HAIR LOSS. If you wash it out everyday then you should be okay. If is dries and flakes in you hair, then it contains a lot of alcohol, which can dry out your scalp, and lead to hair loss. So be careful, and wash that stuff out. And look for alcohol free gels is you can, or try professional lines like Sebastian, they are really lite and don't leave a lot of residue.

Most gels are going to give your hair that "wet look" and make it hard. The solution is to find a gel that is water-based. L'Oreal Studio FX Aqua Gel (you can buy it at walmart, drugstores,etc) is the best gel EVER. It's water based so it's not going to give your hair that "glued down" look PLUS it's from a good brand and inexpensive. I've always avoided hair gel until I found this product. You only need a small amount to style your hair, and it keeps your hair looking normal. And it's less than 3 dollars!

To be honest, I don't really know. Perhaps the theory would be from the alcohol in the hair gel and it causing the hair to get brittle(?) I typically use styling mousse/foam myself. It's less irritating to my scalp which is very sensitive to all kinds of products and shampoo's anyway.

You have to let your scalp breathe! someone who wears a baseball hat constantly can subject themselves to long term damage too! As long as you can wash your hair AND scalp clean and leave FREE of products at least once a week, you'll be fine. Always look at the ingredients. If it has alcohol in it, its drying out your hair anyway. as long as your just using a small amount, if not try using less and add water to it. As long as the gel is absorb through you hair, and is not through the scalp you and your baby should be fine. The only thing I suggest is not to use ANY hair coloring or bleaching. La looks will usually make your hair nice and stiff if that's what you want, but create damaging build up after extended use, not to mention ugly white flakes by the end of the day. American crew products are made specifically for men, and they work great. There are tons of other great gels and sprays that will spike hair great and not break the bank. Go to a supercuts or haircuttery and ask for help from one of the stylists- usually the products are garaunteed and you can bring it back if you don't like it. Also, most of the time they have it there and they could try it out on your hair for you before you purchase it.

Also, do not buy crew or any other professional products anywhere but a professional hair salon. Those products at drugstores are sold ilegally, and are usually very old or damaged...some have even been found to have traces of rat feces in them. These products are ONLY garaunteed when bought in a professional salon. Plus, the prices at the drugstore wont be cheaper than the salon anyway.

my hair really sucks. its very thick, and its in between curly and wavy. and its also very coarse. when its really short, i have no problem with it, but when it gets a little long, its almost impossible to manage. anyting i put in it, usually weighs it down as its already thick. i've tried sexy hair gel and wax, and other types of wax but nothing seems to work. does anyone have any tips? not just glue, wax or gel, but can thinning my hair also work out? i keep it short, no longer than a few inches. any help is appreciated. thanks!

Im speculating...wildly. I may even be totally off, but here goes.

the idea is to use unflavoured gelatin (animal or plant), Apple cider vinegar (low ph agent) and flax seed oil to make a natuaral hair gel that can be good for your hair and calm the frizz.

make it like the usual flax seed hair gel but add the extra ingredients listed below as well.

all natural flax seed hair gel:

椋?spring/filtered water

椋?tbls. flax seed

椋?drops scented essential oil (eg. lavender)

Extra ingredients:

椋?gelatin

椋?Apple cider vinegar

I will ginea-pig it as soon as I get some time to gather the ingredients. If anyone else is willing to try it out let me know.

If you do try it out test it on a small section first- perhaps it will crust if too much gelatin or flax is used. It's all natural ingredients, so dont worry too much.

Right now, i'm usin some hairgel thats supposed to keep my hair in one place for the whole day. Well, it does that for msot of the day. But, here are the cons. It makes my hair really crunchy, and super shiny. Is there anything (not too expensive) out there that I can use to keep my hair in one place the whole day, no shine or crunchiness, and possibly so that it looks well, basically u know how u wake up with bed hed, and no matter what u do, it won't go down/away, that type. I use the American Crew Pomade, specifically the "Tea Tree" Pomade.... Its a little on the pricey side (bout $15 for 3.5 oz) but well worth it. You wont get any crunch or shine and your hair will stay all day long.... and your girl wont get a handful of nasty if she runs her fingers through your hair

Wax does this for me, I'm not a guy but I have short hair in the back that I spike out and it keeps it there better than wax. What I do is use super spiker glue *which keeps hair in place* and then I spray it with texturizer. It gives it that extra hold but doesn't make it feel so rough.

Yes, that is very immature! There are some people that can't control their anger and something like that is just unacceptable. He will most likely apologize for it later and explain by saying that he was not thinking about the consequences as he was doing it. There is nothing much you can really do. I don't know what your style is, but if its whats popular, try drying your hair upside down with a dryer, and then applying hair wax, pomade, or putty to your hair, instead of gel. These will also help with the hair in the back of your head, whether or not you use gel, or hair wax.

i take it ur a girl from ur pic. in that case most hair spray keeps your hair the same shade. however if u r a guy who happens to have a display pic of a girl for some reason...dont use hair spray. (unless ur gay..then i supose its ok. lol)

Believe it or believe it not.. baby powder is great for making blonde hair look lighter.

Words of advice.. only use a tiny amount, as too much will make your hair look white.

When I had my hair blonde I used John Freida sheer blonde products and they didn't turn my hair darker.
