How to use hair gel?

I'm new to using gel, I have short hair and when I put it in after showering its all slippery and doesn't hold, so should I put it when my hair is dry?

Also how do I use gel to keep hair in the back down?

Dry-off your hair with your towel. You don't need to blow-dry your hair. You want to leave some moisture in it. Put some gel in your palm, rub your hand together, and apply. I have shorter hair and that's what I do.

Hair gel works best when it's longer. Yep dry is better then wet.

Dry your hair first, it doesn't have to be all the way. Then use a little bit of gel and put it on in the direction you want your hair to go. If you start with a little bit, you can always add more if needed.

put it in not when your hair is wet, but when its mostly dry (damp). just put it in the back and comb it down (do guys use combs ? im not really sure) that should work

dry is better than wet. definately.

to keep hair down in back. you should blow dry it down then put in gel and blow dry again.

After washing and conditioning your hair, towel dry your hair. Just scrub it with the towel a bit, so that it isnt dripping wet. Then take a SMALL amount of gel ( using too much is the problem here. It starts to work from a too-wet state, and is unmanageable. Then it just goes stiff, and stays limp.) I don't know what your style is, but if its whats popular, try drying your hair upside down with a dryer, and then applying hair wax, pomade, or putty to your hair, instead of gel. These will also help with the hair in the back of your head, whether or not you use gel, or hair wax.
