i am a guy, and i just need to weigh down hair on the top left and right part of my head, and the part the front to the side, i'm planning on using hair gel, do i necessarily need a comb, or can i slowly style it with my fingers?

Try it both ways. They will give you different looks. My boyfriend uses a comb and it gives him a more clean look. Using your fingers is slightly messier, but you might feel like you have more control of how your hair will look in the end.
