Hair gel help?

i never really used any hair products and want to try. i have a REALLY thick wavy hair and i want to try to use hair gel. what is a good one that's gonna actually work and how do i use it?

First try a gel with a light hold. If all you want to do is define your waves, light is best. You don't want your hair to have so much that it doesn't move, or look real. Many girls/women use balms instead, they define the curl, but leave the hair pliable, not crunchy. Crunchy was eighties, early nineties, the look now, unless you are on a runway, is natural and soft! Hope this helps!!!

Don't got for any really cheap ones SOMETIMES they make flakes which looks gross. Just try one. Its really not that hard, because if you don't like it you don't have to keep using it. With wavy hair it is better to use gel when your hair is damp also.

LA looks really works but DO NOT rub into scalp, gel creates dandruff upon drying out your skin.

the best hair gel in the world is Jello believe it or not it really works now try it and you will agree and for your frizz or if hair is unmanagable Use mayonaise as a conditioner

dont waste your money on factory gel when there is no need to

jello +water and apply you will see its works!!

Well for thick hair try using Black gel. the color is actually black. you'll need a hard brush because your hair is thick, depending on the length of your hair, start with a dolop of gel and work from the front of the head to the black, you can do this on wet hair as well which will probably work better. and if you need all day staying power try a Nexxus holding spray.

any hair gel could work. have your hair be damp, flip your hair over(head down) put a quarter size to 50 cent size blob of gel in your hand, rub hands together so it is on both hands.then finger through your hair. flip head back up,and scrunch your hair in your fist.

tresseme hydrology is a great hair gel. When styling apply generously throughut hair working it outwards from root to tip then style as desired.

depends on the texture of your hair...if it is really....really thick...to the point where it's hard to handle....you might want to try certain black hair care products (gels or pomades). A pomade would be better...go to your local Sally Beauty Sally or any Beauty Supply and check for Elasta QP glaze, or..if you don't want the shine along with the hold....Try Beyond the Zone at Sally's their whole line is tailored to control hair...add shine...and control frizz. Good luck!

What do you want your hair to do?

Keep the frizz down but wear it curly?

Straighten it flat?

Depends on what you want your hair to do and how you want it to feel.

I work in the professional cosmetology industry.

If you want to run your fingers through your hair and still have some control to your style - Gel MAY not be your best styling product.

Most gels are designed to hold hair in a stiff, sticky position- think guys' hair.

If you want to blow dry your hair straight and remove your waves- use a straightening balm on damp hair.

Blow dry with a VERY BIG round brush- applying tension on each section as you run the dryer over it. Go section by section- this can be very tiring.

Once it's dry, rub some more straightening balm or silicone drops onto your plams and smooth the outer surface of your hair.

If it's not as straight as you like- you can always go over eaqch section again with a flat iron.

If you want to accentuate your waves- which you really should since waves are very hot right now (look at the awards show red carpets for proof!). Just pick up a light styling cream or curl defining cream- this will pop your waves and keep the frizzies down. You can apply to damp hair and scrunch dry with a blowdryer that you've attached a diffuser head to. Or just air dry and go.

Find a stylist that has your hair type - usually they specialize in wavy/curl hair.

Don't fight your hair- there are plenty of stick straight hair girls who would kill to have body and waves in their hair- I'm one of them!
