I use hair gel (brylcream) for the last 1 year as I like to have different hair style according to mood . My friends keep telling me that it is harmful and my hairs will get grey. Is it true.

Well, it depends on what you mean on harmful. First of all if you use it for about half a day then wash it out when your finished no but if you use it all day and the next and still dont wash it out that is when it is harmful.
